Welcome to Room 16!

My name is Rachel Starrett and I have been teaching at Lincoln School for 18 years. I graduated from Wheaton College with a B.S. in Environmental Science and spent a few years working as a chemist in an environmental lab. Although I enjoyed that experience, I wanted to become a teacher because I’ve always loved working with children. I graduated from Pepperdine University in 2006 with my Teaching Credential and M.A. in Education. I began teaching kindergarten at Lincoln for four years, then taught 2nd grade for 13 years, before moving to TK this year.

My husband and I currently live in Torrance with our two children, Caroline (12) and Coulson (8). We like to go to the aquarium or museum on the weekends. We also love going out to breakfast. My children keep me very busy, but in my free time I enjoy reading and gardening.

At Lincoln, my favorite subject to teach is science. I love teaching science because science is everywhere! Kids are naturally full of wonder and I want to nurture that curiosity as they explore the world around them.

I am passionate about teaching and my goal is that all students will leave TK with a love of learning.
