Principal's Message

Dear Lincoln Lion Families,

Welcome to the start of the 2023-2024 school year! We hope you enjoyed the summer and spent time with your family and friends, traveling, soaking up rays at the beach and enjoying the perks of living in Southern California. Whether you are returning to Lincoln from your summer break, or if you are new to our school, we are pleased to welcome you back!

We are excited to welcome several new staff to Lincoln Elementary this school year. Mrs. Carol Alvarado will join us as our new Assistant Principal. Her position will be split with Alta Vista Elementary. Ms. Chloe Mowbray will teach the K/1 Special Day Class. Mrs. Danicka Quigley will teach the 2nd/3rd Special Day Class. Ms. Rachel Fukunaga will be the lower grade Learning Center teacher. Mrs. Katie Bickerstaff will teach 4th grade. Mrs. Brooke Friedberg is returning to Lincoln to teach 4th Grade and job share with Mrs. Courtney Horta. In the front office, we welcome Mrs. Janet Alatorre who is joining us as our new Office Administrative Assistant. Please take a moment to extend a friendly hello to the newest members of the Lincoln Family.

This school year our Lincoln Lion staff and students will focus on improving academic achievement and student engagement. Together we will be raising the bar to truly develop the whole child. This can only be done in the spirit of togetherness and teamwork. Therefore, our theme this school year is Uplifting. We will lift up our test scores through daily rigor with Wit & Wisdom and Eureka Math. We will lift up student engagement by focusing on student needs and abilities (focusing on increased student output- reading, writing, and speaking). We will lift up our students’ social emotional skills through our new Social Emotional Learning program Second Step. We will lift up our amazing community of teachers and support staff by providing time for staff collaboration and lesson prep time. We will lift up our Special Day Program by welcoming more inclusive practices and bringing back the Friendship Circle. Let’s all look for opportunities to uplift one another this school year!

The school office will be open on Wednesday, August 2nd from 9:00AM to 3:00PM, closing for the lunch hour each day at noon until the first day of school. If you have any questions or need to submit enrollment documentation, please call or come by the office during those hours.

The first day of school starts on Wednesday, August 16th with early dismissal at 1:35PM for grades 1-5. Kindergarten times are shortened and modified the first day only as follows: AM Class (8:00AM – 10:00AM). All three kindergarten classes this school year will be AM classes.

Two special events will be held prior to the first day of school. On Friday, August 11th all Kindergarten students and their parents are invited to the “Kindergarten Kickoff” at 2:00PM on the Kindergarten playground. Kindergarten teacher/room assignments will be posted and the PTA will be welcoming you and providing important information for our incoming Kindergarten families. Refreshments will be served and we hope you can join us!

Then, on Monday, August 14th from 4:00PM – 6:00PM all Lincoln families are invited to attend the “Back to School Kickoff,” sponsored by the Lincoln PTA. On the primary playground, this fun family event will give you the opportunity to view teacher/room assignments (which will be printed and posted), reconnect with old friends and learn more about our school. The PTA is one of the many ways for parents to participate at school and we strongly encourage your support. We are fortunate to have an involved PTA at Lincoln! We are very excited to have Michelle Freifeld return to lead our PTA as president this school year!

Know that my door is always open, and I encourage you to visit with questions, concerns or just a friendly hello. I look forward to a successful and rewarding school year!

Sincerely,

Marvin Brown

Principal
