Counselor's Corner

My name is Veronica Puentes and I am the School Counselor at Lincoln Elementary. I have been a School Counselor in the Redondo Beach Unified School District since 2008. I'm starting my 18th year as a counselor! I graduated with a Master degree in Counseling, and hold credentials in Pupil Personnel Services and Child Welfare and Attendance. On my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love hiking, finding new places to eat, traveling, reading, movies, and shopping.

Lincoln's counseling program focuses on targeting our students academic, social-emotional, and college/career development. My direct service to students includes counseling individually and in groups. I visit all K-5 classrooms to do lessons that focus on social and emotional learning. Students see me if they need help with friendship or social problems, are struggling with a life event, like divorce, or death of a loved one, and/or trying to manage strong emotions like anger, worries, and sadness. Students can refer themselves, or a teacher or parent can refer their student as well.

Some of my work is behind the scenes, like working with parents and teachers to increase student success in the classroom and playground. I coordinate our annual Career Day. I also plan and implement events and programs designed to make school a safe and welcoming place for learning (Red Ribbon Week, The Great Kindness Challenge, etc.).  I also provide resources to teachers and parents (e.g. parenting classes, support groups, tutoring, mental health resources).

If you would like to refer your child, or would like community resources, please feel free to contact me at [email protected], or (310) 798-8646 ext. 1354. I would be more than happy to help in any way I can. I look forward to working with and supporting Lincoln families and staff!
